One of the very best ways to Leverage the Power of the Group is to share expertise, so Yellow-Tie supports all efforts to do exactly that. Two common methods are:
Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
Early in our development as a trade association, we acknowledged that most businesspeople want to better themselves -- as public speakers, writers, coaches, and so forth -- and found that Yellow-Tie can be the perfect venue for that to happen.
So we designed a process whereby any group of members could form a SIG and work together to achieve a common goal.
You set the direction of your group. Yellow-Tie will help you grow your group and support it with the tools, technologies and business relationships at our disposal. (See "The 18-Percent Solution call-out box to the right for an example of the power of a Yellow-Tie SIG.)
Skills-Enhancement Programs
One business element that binds all Yellow-Tie members is sales. Whether we're full-time salespeople, business owners, attorneys, accounts, consultants, writers, coaches, mentors, trainers, facilitators or something else, we must all increase our proficiency at selling and/or managing salespeople. So as chapters grow, they begin conducting skills-enhancement programs to help attendees improve their sales skills.
In some cases, chapter leaders organize and run these events. In other cases, such as the St. Louis chapter, a Sales SIG takes charge. Regardless, one of the benefits of joining Yellow-Tie is being surrounded by helpful peers who are challenged with the same marketing- and sales-related issues as you.

The 18 Percent Solution
In January 2007, the Speakers SIG in St. Louis designed, built and held an all-day seminar where they taught business owners the tips and techniques for business survival.
